The Federal Government has finalized arrangements to establish the Staple Crop Processing Zones (SCPZs) in the country.
The concept is to promote the growth and processing of staple crops in different zones in the country and to attract private sector investments to grow them, add value to them, create jobs and improve the lives of the people. Adequate and support infrastructure will be provided and food production clusters will be developed in each zone.
The SCPZs will reduce the cost of doing business for agro-processors, ensure their competitiveness and create a ready market for farmers while reducing their post harvest losses.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that if the SCPZs are successfully implemented, it is estimated to add between N660 billion to N1.4 trillion to the nation’s economy.
